Why don’t you recommend any restaurants near where I live? We wish we could recommend restaurants in everyone’s high street, but there are still areas of the UK that are virtual gastronomic deserts. Although the situation is improving slowly, the sad truth is that really good restaurants, and we mean those where the food is truly worthy of mention, are in our opinion, few and far between. We will therefore recommend the nearest restaurant to where you live, one that we consider offers the best food within its category.
How do you work out which places to recommend? We do not accept any form of payment or advertising from any of the establishments we recommend. We base our recommendations on the personal experiences of our nationwide team of professional food critics and writers. These recommendations are not based on just one opinion, we confer with relevant team members when it comes to places within their region. There will be times when they may not be immediately available.
How soon will you reply to my request? We will try and get back to you within 24 hours. It may be that we reply sooner, sometimes a little later, it all depends on the nature of your query, as some may take longer than others.
How do you work out your pricing?
The price we give is for one person choosing an average three-course
meal from the carte, excluding aperitifs, wine or service.
Set meal prices, tasting menus and pre- post-theatre menus,
where applicable, are given separately, and are also per person.
What do you mean by modern British? How does it differ from modern European?
Different styles of cooking can be interpreted in any number
of different ways by chefs. We have studied the menus provided
and the description we give the food is our impression of
what we perceive to be the overall style of food served.
Modern British - new wave British cooking
using predominantly British ingredients but borrowing from
other cultures and traditions to create unusual combinations.
Modern European probably a bit of a catch-all,
as it encompasses a mix of British, French, and Mediterranean
cooking styles, often with more than a touch of innovation.
What do you mean by a top end restaurant?
This a restaurant where you can expect exceptional food, with a décor and
atmosphere that’s fairly formal, so diners are expected to dress smartly.
If, heaven forbid, a jacket and tie is required for men, we will let you know.
When will I receive my copy of the newsletter?
Newsletters are distributed at the beginning of each month
